Vegetarians and Complete Proteins

Vegetarians can obtain good protein sources by combining various plant foods. To make a complete protein source so that you can ensure your body is getting a good supply of all the essential amino acids, you will need to combine certain plant foods together either into one meal or throughout the day.
The basic rules to building complete proteins are very simple: Always combine one food item from the Group 1 Box shown below with one choice from either Group 2, 3 or 4 also shown below.
Group # 1 : Breads, Cereals, Grains
Bread, rice, whole wheat products, wholegrain cereals oats, corn, barley, rye, millet, wheat, spelt, and kamut.
Group # 2 : Legumes
Peas, Beans & Lentils: including all dried beans & peas – aduki, kidney, soya, chick peas, mushy peas, baked beans, and beansprouts
Group # 3 : Vegetables
Potatoes & other Vegetables
Group # 4 : Nuts & Seed
Walnuts, Cashews Almonds, Sunflower, Sesame Pumpkin & other seeds
Examples:
  • Rice with Peas
  • Kamut Pasta with Broccoli
  • Spelt Bread with Curried Vegetables with Yams or Potatoes
  • Ryvita Cracker with Almond Butter

She has 22 years of experience in natural nutrition and holistic health and is a member in good standing with the ANPQ (L’Association des Naturopathes Professionnels du Québec). She teaches individuals how to use foods, supplementation, herbs, and detoxification to support their health and wellness goals.
